Do I need antivirus software?
If you are dealing with a Microsoft based computer from any of the following manufacturers (note that this is hardly an exhaustive list): Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, Toshiba etc you need antivirus software. Simply look at your desktop.
Your computer most likely came with a trial version of Norton Antivirus security (which I would not recommend). After the 30 day trial, your PC desktop began to look more like it had already been infected by a virus, what with all of the Norton pop up ads saying that you have no protection and encouraging you to buy.
If you wanted to turn these ads off, you had to go through a complicated process to delete the program, and in many cases, the program was embedded so deeply into the system that only a professional could do it.
If your desktop looks like a virus hit it from the antivirus software, then yes, you need an antivirus program, but not from the people who are trying to scare you into buying theirs.
You need AVG Internet Security 2012 from: http://www.free.avg.com/au-en/free-antivirus-download. AVG has somem free programs which do everything that Norton claims to, but it does not shove itself in your face because it has not sold itself short with deals with manufacturers.
